Industrial engineering is about choices. Other engineering disciplines apply skills to very specific areas. Industrial engineering gives you the opportunity to work in many different kinds of businesses. The most distinctive aspect of industrial engineering is the flexibility it offers.

Established as one of the first industrial engineering programs in the United States, UA's Department of Industrial Engineering offers training in the scientific principles that underlie the profession. The program provides a background in mathematics and the physical and social sciences, as well as specialized courses needed by today's industrial engineers.

Important notice: By vote of the University of Alabama Board of Trustees, the BSIE degree program will be discontinued over the five-year period 2006-2011. No entering freshmen may declare the major after August 2006. Transfers will be accepted on a case-by-case basis, but all BSIE students must complete degree requirements by August 2011.
